Prof. Ali Bazzi

 

Dr. Bazzi is the Charles H. Knapp Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Connecticut (UConn). He received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Urbana, IL, USA. He received the B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from the American University of Beirut (AUB), Beirut, Lebanon. He is also Co-founder and Vice President for Energy Conversion and Propulsion at Valcon Labs Inc, a deep-tech start-up for aircraft electrification. He was with Delphi Corp. as a Sr. Power Electronics Electrical Engineer before joining UConn. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor at UIUC during Spring 2011, and an engineer with Bitrode Corporation during the Summers of 2008 and 2009. Dr. Bazzi has over 120 peer-reviewed publications and holds 10 U.S. patents.

Research Interests: Fault-tolerant power electronic systems with applications to renewable energy grid and microgrid integration (especially solar photovoltaics and wind), electric motor drives, electrified transportation, and automation. Emphasis on design and control for reliability and efficiency, including self-healing and reconfigurable power converters, diagnostics and prognostics of power electronic systems, and fault mitigation. Interested in WBG and UWBG semiconductor applications in power electronics for high-frequency, high-power, and/or high-voltage applications.
